Ask Mr. Mark - A Pat On My Back

First I want to say that the story your about to read is true and several "fun" things were left out. This young man, Mark Anthony, has more tools to go far in life then most people I have met and that includes some very high profile success stories! After reading the first 2 paragraphs here, click on the link below to read the whole article. Then surf his blog and let me know when you get back from Vegas!

On my recent trip back to Minnesota, I made a special point of visiting an old friend. Tony Geer. If you ever want to learn anything about retail marketing, guerrilla style, spend a few minutes with Tony and you will have an MBA level degree in retail marketing.

I first met Tony while managing a kiosk next to his at Mall of America in Minnesota. The first thing that attracted me to him was his ability to call a spade a spade. He could rip an employee for bad business practices one minute, and spin around the next minute and woo a passerby into stopping to look, than buy whatever he was selling.

Turning screaming and unruly kids into passive, obedient children is another trait he has. To him, that was the key....

BIG TEN AND BIG 12 ANNOUNCE FORMATION OF ANNUAL WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CHALLENGE

The following is a complete press release from The Big Ten. Please visit the websites for the Big Ten and the Big 12

PARK RIDGE, Ill. – The Big Ten and Big 12 Conferences announced today the formation of an annual inter-conference challenge for women’s basketball, which will span at least two years and will begin in the fall of 2010. The series will feature a home-and-home format over the initial two-year agreement, and each of the Big 12’s teams will play in each Challenge, while one Big Ten team, Wisconsin, will play two Challenge games each year.

“The Big Ten is excited to participate in this annual challenge with the Big 12 Conference,” Big Ten Associate Commissioner Andrea Williams said. “The creation of this new series will provide an opportunity for teams from each league to begin an annual challenge to showcase competitive matchups that our fans from across the country will enjoy.”

“We are looking forward to our challenge with the Big Ten Conference,” Dru Hancock, Big 12 senior associate commissioner said. “This provides a unique scheduling opportunity for our women’s basketball programs against quality opponents. It will also feature exciting matchups for fans to follow over the next two seasons.”

The 2010 Challenge will be played Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4 and 5, with the exception of the Kansas at Wisconsin game, which will be played on Nov. 21. The Big Ten will have seven home games during the 2010 Challenge, which will be referred to as the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge. In 2011, the Big 12 will have seven home games, and the series will be referred to as the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge.

The Boilermakers’ will begin the Challenge at Texas A&M next season. Purdue has a 2-0 record against the Aggies, but the teams have not faced each other in 14 years. The last meeting was on Dec. 1, 1995, a 74-72 win in the Kona Classic in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The first meeting was an 82-56 victory for the Boilermakers on March 24, 1994, in the NCAA Tournament regional semifinal game in Palo Alto, Calif.

This Challenge represents the second inter-conference series for the Big Ten, who also participates in an annual challenge with the ACC. It is the first for the Big 12 in which all institutions will participate.
